Singer-pianist in Perth performs jazz/latin standards at corporate events and offers voice coaching.

Jazz vocalist, pianist, songwriter and educator Juliet Pang who has an early background in folk, experimental, contemporary music was first signed by Ocean Butterflies International in 2000. In recognition of their differences, the company and the singer parted ways amicably. She was by then, also known as the voice behind the local radio station, UFM100.3FM‘s station theme songs. For others, she was better known as the ‘ethereal voice’ in the end credits theme of one of Singapore’s best-acclaimed cult movies, “Eating Air” (“吃风”). She also received a COMPASS Best Soundtrack Award (Lyrics Category) for her collaboration with Singaporean pop sensation JJLin (林俊杰) on his composition “被风吹过的夏天“ （”The Wind-Blown Summer”) that was later used as the theme song for popular TV-series “阴差阳错” (“From Zero to Hero”).

In 2003, she co-founded a contemporary music school, Replugged Music (Singapore) and continued to develop the syllabus and the vocal department for the next 7 years before she left to pursue Graduate Studies at Australian Institute of Music in Sydney, Australia (2011), majoring in performance in Piano.

With an equal penchant for voice performance and dance, she constantly sought to combine her love for movement as well as music. In 2004 she was offered a dance scholarship by Jitterbugs Swingapore, and between 2005-2006, she was actively involved in ensemble roles for two major productions by Singapore Repertory Theatre, namely ‘The Snow Queen’ and ‘The Forbidden City’, starring Kit Chan with music composed by Dick Lee. In 2007, she was offered the lead role as Lucia in the musical ‘You’re Special’ by I-Theatre with music and arrangements by Bang Wenfu.

Before her departure to Sydney in 2011, she released her debut album, “The Perfect Journey” (“完美之旅”）consisting of 12 of her own contemporary compositions ranging from folk, alternative, pop, electro-acoustic and jazz. The album consisted of all her musical influences over her early journey as a recording artiste and a live performer. She also chose to pen and arrange all of the tunes, inviting only the closest of her musical mentors to join her in the music-arrangement process. The album was the product of her journey with her dearest friends over an important span of time in her life. It was also a closure to her first musical chapter to welcome the next. Her compositions “Blue Skies and A Yellow Moon”, “完美之旅“, “坏东西”, “Every Christmas Carol” and “Hey You” were widely aired on Singaporean stations including LUSH99.5FM, Gold90.5FM, Yes933FM, UFM100.3FM, and LOVE97.2FM. She was also interviewed by popular radio stations, OneFM and 988FM in Malaysia. Her latin recording of Charles Trenet’s “I Wish You Love”, accompanied by the masterful pianist, arranger, friend and mentor Mario Serio can also be heard on Sydney’s jazz radio station, 89.7 Eastside FM.

Despite initial strong views from peers in the industry in presenting a dual-language album, she persisted in the production and release of the debut which would more accurately reflect her background as a bilingual singer and composer. The album was later nominated by Fresh Music Awards (5th Edition) as Best New Album. It also had her nominated as Best Local Artiste. Other notable record releases during this time include “Absolute Voices” and “Oriental Jazz” (S2S).

Dedicated to her growth in jazz composition and performance after her fully original debut album, she formed White Noise Quartet. Together with accomplished Sydney pianist and husband, Didi Mudigdo, they focussed mainly on presenting original jazz and latin compositions. Together with versatile Singaporean drummer Tan Boon Gee and revered veteran bassist Eddie Jansen, they premiered at the Singapore Arts Festival 2012, and later released their live album “White Noise Live” (December 2012), a live recording of their performance at Esplanade Theatres by the Bay.

In 2017, she took her illustration and design work to a new level and started her business ‘Juliet Illustrates’. At the same time, she began moving into solo singer-pianist work, performing a beloved repertoire consisting of jazz and latin standards, and also Shanghai Jazz classics. Her love for languages also adds to the repertoire a colourful, diverse array of evergreen songs sung in Portuguese, Spanish, Bahasa Indonesia, Tagalog, Mandarin and Cantonese.

She is also the quirky half of the ukulele and bass guitar jazz duo Polkadot + Moonbeam (Tokyo, Sydney, Perth, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur), and piano bass guitar jazz duo, MINT, and the vocalist of her jazz quartet White Noise (Malacca, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong), as well as The Good Seeds.

In 2018, she rediscovered her love for the bare acoustics of her voice and the piano, marrying her two first instruments. The exploration led her down a path of recreating the orchestration of a jazz duo or trio into an independent solo singer-pianist performance. The independence of this lineup also encouraged the freedom in arrangements that seamlessly accompanies voice.
