’tis Spring (This Spring) 這樣的春季 Huayi 2018 華裔節

Spring in Singapore may not come across as significant in terms of climate changes. But you could most certainly smell and see that whiff of anticipation of the coming of lunar new year.

I was pleased to have an opportunity to share my music and swing arrangements with the Singaporean audience on the piano and vocals with my favourite bassist Didi Mudigdo this CNY 2018.

We shared my newly penned Mandarin lyrics to Duke Ellington’s It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It’s Ain’t Got That Swing) ／搖擺不說理, alongside with a bilingual (Mandarin/English – Jon Hendricks’ lyrics) version of that tremendous Clifford Brown standard JoySpring／喜迎春, as well as one of my favourite Bossa Nova classics from Roberto Menescal O Barquinho／愛情小天堂 as a bilingual love song/duet with Didi.

Since we have been gone for a bit, since Jazz in July (10th Anniversary), we have noticed new ‘regulars’ in the crowd. And we just want to say a huge THANK YOU to those of you who made time down to just enjoy the music and chat with us. We complain a lot about not having a real arts community, but the truth is that, it starts from somewhere. Supporting a local musician, jam sessions etc – never underestimate your presence. Simply bring it. You make that difference.
