We have had the pleasure of working with the Shangri-La Choir team on a choral item for Earth Hour over these 2 weeks.
3 songs were selected for the theme of the event. After picking the essentials, ie, Heal the World and Colours of the Wind, we weren’t sure which other song would have the relevant lyrics for the event and still be manageable for the team given the little amount of time they have to learn the tunes by hard. Keeping in mind that English isn’t their first language, we were stumped for the 3rd song. Songwriters, we need songs in this department! :)
Our manager picked out a tune finally. And what a surprise. The song was so simple, and yet so brilliant. I love its unpretentiousness. It came from Nashville singer-songwriter TJ McCloud‘s album “God’s Animals”. And what a simple message to that could be received by everyone, adults and children.
In the beginning God made all the sea, skies, the flora and animals, and then Man…. and then He made Adam the gardener, and entrusted him with the task of naming them, and taking care of them. What are we doing with the earth? It is everyone’s responsibility, and it is something that has grown in importance to me as I grow older. We witness things fading away. And it just doesn’t have to be that way. It started in Love, and would not end if we continue in Love.
Here are the lyrics to the chorus:
Take care of the earth
Take care of the sky
Take care of the water with the waves rolling by
Take care of the earth, that’s what we should do
Take care of the earth, God made it for you
